How it works
Paywall Creep develops when functionality that was previously available at an existing level of access progressively moves behind premium tiers, add-ons, supplemental subscriptions, boosts, or other monetized gates.
The defining characteristic is movement across a payment boundary over time.

What to look for
Available becomes premium
Functionality previously included or broadly accessible becomes restricted to an additional paid level.
Payment creates another payment decision

The paywall advances

Important distinction
Charging for genuinely new functionality is not Paywall Creep.
A company can create a new product or capability and charge separately for it. Paywall Creep concerns movement of previously available value across a payment boundary, particularly when that movement occurs progressively.
